Original construction and maintenance/repair recommendations

• Factory recommendations for keel bolt replacement - windowing and sister-bolt methods -
  Bijou's keel bolts were replaced using the windowing method. They can be replaced relatively easily should we ever need to do so, for example, after a hard grounding. The drawing also shows how to install lag screws ("sister bolts") as an alternative to windowing.
  
  
• Keel stub and bolt construction details, revision #3 - May 1988 - Factory stopped installing wood core in the keel stub
  The note for the third revision of this drawing documents that the factory had stopped using wood core in the stubs of all models of Catalinas sometime around May 10, 1988.
  
  
• Factory recommenations for removing rotten wood in keel stub
  This was done for Bijou's keel stubby. If your boat was manufactured prior to mid 1988, it probably has wood core in the keel stub. If you're planning on replacing the keel bolts, that's a good time to remove the wood and replace it with solid laminate.
